All is Calm

Our power has been out for over an hour and a half now. I'm annoyed by this because it's the 4th or 5th time it's happened in the last 6 mos. But, there's a strange peace about all the things being off...no humming refrigerator, no whirring of the computer fan, no radio. I don't have to worry about getting the laundry done, or running the dishwasher, or scrubbing the toilets. All that is on hold. It's just quiet and calm. Timothy, who was quite upset when all the things turned off, has calmed down and has been playing with his trains for the last hour. I'm rocking AJ (who is snuggly and warm) and reading and enjoying the camaraderie. 

I don't often have days like this; days when I ignore the voice in my head that's telling me to do, to be productive, to earn my keep. I do have days where I don't get anything done, but they are usually accompanied by massive amounts of self-inflicted guilt about what I should do or be. 

Today, though? Today, when the power went out, that voice went out, too. (Hmmm. Maybe that voice is electronic?) I'm just relaxing, and I'm enjoying it. The chores and guilt can wait til the power is back. And, since it's not cold, I'm praying it doesn't come back for awhile. 

Though, if it doesn't come back, I'm not exactly sure how I'll make lunch. Or dinner. 

I guess there's always take-out, huh?

Thankfulness in 2013

159. Jul 15 - I'm thankful for the soft and much-needed rain.

158. Jul 4 - I'm thankful the migraine stayed manageable today so that I could enjoy a good day of fellowship.

157. Jul 3 - I'm thankful for the tv babysitter. It gave me a quick nap so that I could muscle through the migraine until Paul got home.

156. Jun 30 - It's so good to be back at church with everybody!

155. Jun 29 - I'm thankful for a great and productive day at home. We were so productive that we had the whole afternoon off and even got a little bored. We really enjoyed watching fireworks with friends.

154. Jun 24 - I'm thankful to be home. Timothy did remarkably well on the trip, but I'm sure he won't want to get back in the carseat anytime soon!

153. Jun 23 - I'm thankful to be in church with my parents and sisters.

152. Jun 22 - I'm so thankful that we got to surprise mom and dad today! The 12 hour trip was totally worth it!

151. Jun 21 - Happy Birthday to my best friend, Aimee!

150. Jun 15 - I'm so thankful for my sweet husband who mows the lawn so cheerfully!

146. Jun 11 - I'm thankful to be feeling better! And I'm thankful for chocolate chip cookie dough (it's been one of those days!)

145. Jun 10 - I'm thankful for air conditioning! And I'm thankful that Paul took over the last of the chores so that I could go to bed early because I'm not feeling well. He's a good man!

141. Jun 6 - I'm thankful for 4 wonderful years with Paul. I can't believe it's been that long already! In many ways it feels like we're just getting started (which, I suppose, in the scheme of things, we are!). I'm thankful that we don't fight or argue; that we get along so well. Our home truly is a calm sanctuary for us!

140. Jun 5 - I'm thankful for getting more sleep lately. I'm thankful for living so close to good friends and getting together to take care of the church and then going and singing with Papa.

139. Jun 4 - I'm thankful for a lovely morning - light breeze, cloud cover, clear air - makes for a wonderful morning walk. I'm also thankful that we live in walking distance of so many places, because it makes having one car so much easier!

138. Jun 3 - I'm thankful that I got an almost-4-hour-chunk of sleep last night. Maybe this signals the end of the waking up every 1.5-2 hours that's been going on for the last several weeks. I certainly hope so!

137. Jun 2 - Happy 19 Month Birthday to Timothy!

136. Jun 1 - I'm thankful for a very productive day and for having a budget and a plan so that we can pay cash for everything we need for our car repairs. What a relief that we don't have to worry about it!

135. May 31 - I'm thankful that we get to have company over tonight!

134. May 30 - I'm thankful that Paul's meeting with his new advisor went really well and that, so long as we can find the funds, his transition to school should be really painless.

133. May 29 - I'm thankful for Wednesday night church. What a joy and blessing it is to go and fellowship with my family and friends.

132. May 28 - I'm really struggling to be a good mama today. I'm thankful that I don't have to be perfect, and that babies' memories are short and that I know he forgives me even when I'm cranky with him.

131. May 27 - I'm thankful for those soldiers who've given their lives to protect our freedoms. I'm thankful for a wonderful day spent hanging out with my brother. I'm thankful for Paul's first Memorial Day off of work in 13 years!

130. May 26 - I'm thankful for a quiet and cheerful 2-hour car ride.  Can't wait to see all the family!

129. May 25 - I'm thankful for a great day with family. It's been really nice.

128. May 24 - I'm thankful for being able to ignore all the chores and just sit on the couch when I don't feel well.

127. May 23 - I'm thankful for the cool weather. It makes it nice to just go outside and play!

126. May 22 - I'm thankful to be feeling a bit better. It makes it easier to be nice.

125. May 21 - Happy Birthday to my Daddy!

124. May 20 - I'm thankful for God's mercy and strength. I'm still feeling under the weather and just want to find a hole to crawl into, but He's given me the strength and patience to take care of Timothy even when I don't feel like it.

123. May 19 - I'm thankful for communion. It always makes me feel so humble and unworthy and grateful all at the same time.

122. May 18 - I'm thankful that I feel better today - that I feel well enough to babysit, at least!

121. May 17 - I'm thankful that Paul always takes such good care of me, but especially when I'm sick! I hope this goes away very quickly.

120. May 16 - I'm thankful for hope that this thrush/whatever it is that we've been dealing with may be easy to get rid of. The appointment went really well, and she was so kind and generous - even brought back some medication for us. What a blessing!

119. May 15 - I'm thankful for Timothy - he's funny and cute and intelligent, and I'm so thankful that he's healthy and not hindered by being born early.

118. May 14 - I'm thankful for silly children, cute babies, and bedtime.

117. May 13 - I'm thankful for beautiful weather, a lovely home, the smell of baking bread, learning new skills, chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, and nap time.

116. May 12 - I'm thankful for my mama, my MIL, my GMIL and all the wonderful mamas I know who set such good examples for me and who raise up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

115. May 11 - I'm thankful that we've had such a quiet and productive day at home. We're finally getting some time to get stuff accomplished around the house. And Timothy has been so nice. I'm also so thankful that Paul has taken Timothy to run errands with him, giving me some much needed time alone.

114. May 10 - I'm thankful that the Lord is so merciful and good to me. Last night was a really rough night for me and Timothy, but the Lord has given me the strength to make it thru today and be patient and kind to Timothy, and Timothy has actually been quite pleasant.


113. May 9 - I'm thankful that Paul has a job where he can work from home. He's been so sick today, and I'm so thankful that he's not had to go to work, but rather was able to sleep in and feel better and then work!

112. May 8 - I'm thankful for two nights in a row where Timothy has only awakened one time. Maybe we're moving in the right direction.

111. May 7 - I'm thankful for naptime. I really needed that hour and a half by myself this afternoon.

110. May 6 - I'm thankful that Timothy is starting to enjoy playing outside by himself. It's so fun to watch.

109. May 5 - I'm thankful that Timothy has a chance to know his sweet great grandma. He has such a good time with her!

108. May 4 - Happy Birthday to my wonderful Mama!

107. May 3 - I'm thankful for a quiet evening at home. It's been a busy week!

106. May 2 - Happy 18 Month Birthday to Timothy! You're such a blessing to us.

104. Apr 30 - I'm thankful for a fun evening with the family. I love that we live close enough for get-togethers!

103. Apr 29 - I'm thankful that Timothy actually slept for a whole 5-hour stretch last night!

102. Apr 28 - I'm thankful for a rare and quiet Sunday afternoon at home.

101. Apr 27 - I'm thankful for good health, good home, good marriage, good blessings from God. I've so much and I deserve none of it!

100. Apr 26 - I'm thankful that Paul's new job lets him work from home on occasion. I like to get to eat lunch with him! I'm also thankful for a cash-based budget. It definitely keeps me honest!

99. Apr 25 - I'm thankful that God has blessed us with enough finances to be able to pay the occasional unexpected bill without hurting or going into debt.

98. Apr 24 - I'm thankful that we have church on Wednesday nights as well as on Sundays. I'm not sure I could go a whole week without it!

97. Apr 23 - I'm thankful that I got a four-hour chunk of sleep last night. I'm not any less tired than I've been this last month with having to wake up every 2 hours, but there's just something about knowing that it's possible to sleep for four hours that lifts my spirits.

96. Apr 22 -  I'm so very thankful that Paul will listen to my concerns and thoughts about our family and will take me seriously and will put thought and effort into his responses. It makes me feel so loved. I'm also thankful for having good company over for dinner. (And man, was that spaghetti sauce gooo-oood!)

95. Apr 21 - I'm thankful for a great and comforting sermon. Bad things happen, but God is on His throne, so everything is fine!

94. Apr 20 - I'm thankful for a wonderful and productive day at home! It was our first Saturday off in almost two months and we made the most of it!

93. Apr 19 - I'm thankful that we got bikes and are now able to use them. That hill was killer, but the rides have been great!
92. Apr 18 - I'm thankful that I got to babysit sweet baby T last night. Although there were about 30 minutes where I seriously questioned my sanity and doubted my ability to have more than one child of my own, I actually had a fun time!

91. Apr 17 - I'm so thankful to be back at my church! 

90. Apr 16 - I'm thankful for the leftover beef stroganoff and the strawberries and bananas from our church family. It was so wonderful not to have to cook last night and to have enough leftovers for lunch today!

89. Apr 15 - I'm thankful to be home, to have slept in my own bed, and that Timothy saved his meltdown for today. Poor little guy! It was a tough weekend for him!

88. Apr 14 - I'm thankful for a good church service (even tho I missed my church so much!), and I'm thankful for a safe drive back home. I'm so very thankful for the great weekend and that Timothy handled all the traveling and late nights so well! What a sweet boy!

87. Apr 13 - I'm thankful to be able to welcome my new Sister-in-Law to the family. What a beautiful wedding!

86. Apr 12 - I'm thankful for a safe drive and a fun evening with the extended family.

85. Apr 11 - I'm thankful that Timothy is able to entertain himself, because that's allowed me to get us almost completely packed for this weekend.  

84. Apr 10 - I'm thankful the cold front finally came in because my headache is gone! phew! I'm also thankful for the rain!

83. Apr 9 - I'm thankful for not having an outside job because I just feel....blah....today and I'm glad I can kind of take it easy.

82. Apr 8 - Happy Birthday to my best friend and brother!

81. Apr 7 - I'm thankful for an awesome church service, wonderful fellowship and a quiet evening at home. I'm also thankful that our taxes are done, and, once again, the Lord had provided for us! We're getting enough of a refund to get a good jump start and now we'll be able to quickly save the rest for a (badly needed) new car!

80. Apr 6 - I'm thankful for wonderful fellowship last night and being tired from hard work, today!

79. Apr 5 - I'm thankful for a better night's sleep!

78. Apr 4 - I'm so thankful that I kept a good attitude during the night even as T did not sleep well at all!

77. Apr 3 - I'm so thankful for a good report from my little cousin's dr! I'm also so thankful for a great day with Timothy. He was so cute and sweet and cuddly and independent today. No screeching! What a wonderful rest for my ears and nerves!

76. Apr 2 - I'm thankful for dinner with friends and family. What a fun night! It's great to watch the kids play together.

75. Apr 1 - I'm thankful for the good food that the Lord provides. Bean burritos and raspberry smoothies. yum!

74. Mar 31 - I'm thankful for the resurrection of my Lord and Savior and for what that means. Happy Easter!

73. Mar 30 - I'm thankful for a good turnout at our yard sale (and that the rain stopped). We made over $300!

72. Mar 29 - I'm thankful that the yard sale is almost here. Pricing these items is HARD!

71. Mar 28 - I'm thankful for a good evening with my in-laws. They're good people!

70. Mar 27 - I'm thankful for a quiet day, and that even though a certain tiny red-head decided to be awake from 350-6 this morning, I've not been dragging too badly and have managed to be quite productive!

69. Mar 26 - I'm thankful for almost 6 uninterrupted hours of sleep. Maybe we'll be sleeping all night, every night, before too long?

68. Mar 25 - I'm so very thankful for Paul. I do not deserve him, and he deserves a wife so much better than I, but I'm so thankful that he loves me!

67. Mar 24 - I'm thankful for a good day. The church service was good, the message was useful and necessary, and the fellowship was so delightful! What a beautiful start my week!

66. Mar 23 - I'm thankful for a new glider rocking chair. What a wonderful and unexpected gift!

65. Mar 22 - I'm thankful that we get to go to a church meeting tonight (so glad for religious freedom and speedy transportation!) and I'm thankful that we are taking steps to be better stewards of the finances and things with which God has blessed us. Baby Step #3,  here we come!!!!

64. Mar 21 - I'm thankful for a quiet evening at home, and also I'm thankful that Timothy seems to be developing an earlier bedtime!

63. Mar 20 - I'm thankful for being around moms who teach me so much about motherhood and sacrifice and love and marriage just in their casual conversation.

61. Mar 18 - Happy Birthday to three amazing people who are so dearly loved by me!

60. Mar 17 - I'm thankful that the shower went so well, but most of all, I'm thankful for the reason for the shower - my brother-in-law and his sweet bride!

59. Mar 16 - I'm thankful for the fun of decorating with good friends. I like the conversation, and work, and it always looks so nice!

58. Mar 15 - I'm thankful to have a grocery in waking distance. It makes for good exercise, good use of my time, and is frugal!

57. Mar 14 - I'm thankful for the Lord's patience and understanding with me as I struggle with being able to glorify Him. I'm so unworthy and I fall so far short, but I know that He's forgiven me.

56. Mar 13 - I'm thankful that Paul's job lets him work from home sometimes. It was nice to have the car and get my errands done without having to fight evening shoppers!

55. Mar 12 - I'm thankful for oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. They've just been necessary today!

54. Mar 11 - I'm thankful for such a happy and pleasant today! It's especially nice after a couple of weeks of constant crankiness!

53. Mar 10 - I'm thankful for a happy drive home from grandma's. It's pretty rare, as Timothy is not at all a fan of his car seat!!

52. Mar 9 - I'm thankful for cloudy day which prevented work on the church sprinklers and let us have a quiet day at home. We were productive, too, and got the garage cleaned up! (yay!)

51. Mar 6 - I am so thankful for my first full night of sleep in over a year!!!!

50. Mar 5 - Two nights in a row of Timothy only waking up once!!! Hallelujah!!!

49. Mar 4 - I'm thankful that Timothy only woke up one time last night. I got 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep!

48. Mar 3 - I love church! Can that be said enough?

47. Mar 2 - Happy 16 month birthday to Timothy! Also, I'm thankful for all the work we got done at the church, and, I'm thankful to get to spend a few hours with my brother and his wife.

46. Mar 1 - I'm thankful for modern medicine that, although maybe not the best thing for a baby, does relieve teething pain!

45. Feb 28 - I'm thankful be loved even when I'm out of sorts all day. I'm sorry about that, beloved.

44. Feb 27 - I'm thankful have a pastor who teaches. Tonight's Bible study was so helpful and easy to understand!

43. Feb 26 - I'm thankful for weather that is nice enough for a good, long walk. It was nice to get out of the stuffy house for a bit.

42. Feb 25 - Happy Birthday to my wonderful Father-in-law.

41. Feb 24 - I'm thankful for a good and comforting sermon.

38. Feb 20 - I'm thankful that I got all of my weekly chores done today. Now I can relax and work on other things that have been lacking!

37. Feb 19 - It's been difficult day. Today, I am thankful that Good is on His throne.

36. Feb 18 - Happy President's Day!! I'm so thankful that Paul got the day off. he never had before didn't know he would this time. I love his new job!

35. Feb 17 - I an thankful for a great church service. It's good to know the way Valentine's Day really started and that it's supposed to be a celebration of marriage, not list.

34. Feb 16 -  I'm thankful for getting to spend the day with some of my favorite kids. had fun and they really helped me knock out a lot of chores on nut to-do list!

33. Feb 15 - I'm thankful that when the dogs run away, they usually just go next door. It makes them easier to track down!

32. Feb 14 - I'm thankful for family grocery shopping trips. How I hate to go by myself! (or, even worse, with Timothy!) I'm  thankful for chili-flavored dark chocolate. Happy Valentine's Day!

31. Feb 13 - I'm thankful for the sun! Cabin fever is gone!

30. Feb 12 - I'm thankful that Paul didn't have to work late tonight. Baby Boy severely tested my patience today and his daddy may have saved his life!

29. Feb 11 - I'm thankful that I can renew library books online. I don't feel like getting out to return them.

28. Feb 10 - I'm thankful for my marriage. We are truly one!

16. Jan 29 - I am thankful that Paul doesn't freak out about the budget. It's another little thing, but Timothy and I had a bad day today and so I really did not feel like deciding what to have for dinner and then making it. Paul was totally cool with us getting chick-fila for dinner.

15. Jan 28 - I am thankful that Paul takes care of putting it the garbage. Another little thing, but it allows me to get a little extra sleep.

14. Jan 27 - I am thankful we add another communion service at church. I am thankful that the Lord helped me focus on him as much as I was able to, even tho Timothy was so very distracting.

13. Jan 26 - I am thankful that Paul went grocery shopping with me. It seems like a small thing, but I hate going by myself.

12. Jan 25 - I am thankful for three hour chunks of sleep! And also for a short, quasi-date night. It was nice to just be us for a couple hours!

11. Jan 24 - I am thankful for Frosty's brought by good friends.

10. Jan 23 - I am thankful for Matthew 6:25-34
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

It has been a really hard couple of weeks and I really needed to read this.

9. Jan 22 - it is hard to find something for which to be thankful. My heart is so burdened and heavy today. I need Jesus. I am thankful for Him.

8. Jan 20 - as usual, on Sundays, I am so very thankful for my church and my church family and, as Papa says, "the privilege of coming together to worship Him".

7. Jan 17 - I am so very thankful for Paul. This morning I had a bad headache, do he got up an hour and a half early and took care of Timothy, and then, when Timothy was still awake, Paul watched him while he got ready for work so that I could sleep longer.

6. Jan 6 - I am thankful for church. What a wonderful place to be.

5. Jan 5 - today I am thankful for that tired feeling you get after you've spent a day doing work. I am especially thankful that the Lord has blessed with a church building on which to work.

4. Jan 4 - I am thankful for a fun day spent with some of my favorite kiddos. I love watching them play and be together; it is how I want my own kids to be.

3. Jan 3 - I am thankful for the arrival of my new niece. Welcome to the world! I love you already.

2. Jan 2 - I am thankful for a productive day (almost done with the post-trip cleanup!) and also
for church! It's amazing how long a week can seem without the fellowship and worship to keep me going.

1. Jan 1 - I am thankful for a new year and the chance to spend the day with our family. This is the first New Year's Day that Beloved has had off since we got married. I love his new job!

Thankfulness in 2012

#47. 12-10 Today I am thankful for the end of the semester! We have a whole month where Paul has no homework, which means we can do family stuff!

#46. 12-9 Today I am thankful for having such a lovely afternoon and evening at Grandma's.

0#45. 12-8 Today I am thankful for a fun Christmas party with Paul's new work. He works for a great company and with such nice people. God really has blessed us in that!

#44. 11-26 Today I am thankful that my migraine has gone away. It wasn't a fun night, but I feel so much better.

#43. 11-25 Today I am thankful for a fun and quiet evening spent with Paul's parents. What a nice night!

#42. 11-24 Today I am thankful for Paul's amazing forgiving spirit. I was so cranky all day yesterday, but he has forgiven me and still seems to want to spend time with me. What an amazing man! Also, I am thankful for a really good night's sleep. Timothy pushed two teeth out yesterday and last night and so he slept! I feel great!
 
#41. 11-23 Today I am thankful for Paul's first Black Friday off in over 15 years. He is sooooo happy about it!

#40. 11-22 Today is Thanksgiving Day! (Need I say more?) Today, more than any day this month, even more than his birthday, I am acutely aware of how much the Lord has blessed us by giving us Timothy. He is happy and alert and intelligent and healthy. Last year at this time, we were so scared and unsure of his future. What a difference a year has made!

#39. 11-21 Today I am thankful for my sweet baby boy who makes me laugh when he so earnestly "tells" me his stories. He summed his morning nap up very succinctly when he finished wiggling out from under the covers, gave me a sleepy smile, wiggled some more and then looked me directly in the eyes and declared "BOP!".

#38. 11-20 Today I am thankful that I got to spend the afternoon with some wonderful and amazing kiddos (whom I just happen to get to call family!). I really love hanging out with those guys!

#37. 11-10 Today I am thankful for a timely sermon which addressed something with which I've been struggling. Isn't it amazing how God works?

#36. 11-9 Today I am thankful that I got to go eat breakfast with two very good childhood friends and then got to go eat dinner with a sweet and wonderful family whom I've only known for a short while. Here's to friends, new and old! Thank God for them!

#35. 11-2 Today I am thankful to be celebrating Timothy's first Birthday. What an amazing blessing God has given us!

#34. 10-28 Today I am thankful for my husband's family. They are so kind and caring and decent and they treat me like one of their own. They make me miss my family just a little less. Also, I'm thankful for my sweet, soon-to-be new sister. I can't wait for her to join the family. She makes me laugh.

 #33. 10-27 Today I am thankful for the chance to go hang out with some wonderful friends and musicians. We had such fun at the Bluegrass get-together! It was cold, but totally worth it. I love spending time with those folks.

#32. 10-26 Today I am thankful for feeling so much better! I'm so glad we got to hang out with friends and family last night. I definitely need the companionship.

#31. 10-25 Today I am thankful for mommies who have been there, who don't judge me when I feel like I'm going insane, who give me advice when I ask for it (and never when I don't, even though sometimes I wish they would!), and who tell me the truth about this mommy business, rather than the rose-tinted nonsense that the world tries to sell.

Today, I am thankful for a broken alternator and the resulting day off work for my husband. It has been a much-needed and relaxing day off. In related news, I'm also quite thankful for a newly-repaired truck and the emergency fund.

Today I am thankful for class ditching and John Wayne on NetFlix. It's been a wonderful, quiet evening at home, snuggled up with my boys on the couch.

#20. 1-30 Today, I am thankful for getting to teach horn lessons. All day today, I have been overwhelmed by the idea of teaching them, because it just means more time away from Paul, and I worry about how Timothy will behave, and I worry that I am not a good enough horn player to be a good teacher. But all that went away after I taught them. I love teaching (some days I really miss it), and this is such a wonderful way to get to keep using the skills God gave me.

#19. 1-29 Today, I am thankful for a great time spent at Grandma's house. I got to have a nap and then we got to spend time with the family, just talking and eating and watching Marme and Grandma take turns holding Timothy. I really love that we spend Sundays with the family.

#16. 1-26 Today I am thankful for my mama, who, even tho I am grown up, still takes such good care of he children and always extends that care to my friends. I hope I can be even half the mother she is.

Today I am thankful for a quiet, rainy day spent with my family.

Today, I am thankful for an all-knowing, loving, merciful God. I am grieving for my friends who just lost their baby at 23 weeks. I have an inkling of the fear they felt while at the hospital, but God, in His mercy, spared me from the devastating grief they now endure. I am so thankful that they believe in God and I pray they feel Him with them; that they are comforted by His presence and find peace. I am so thankful they fought so hard to save their little boy, that they resisted the pressure put on them by their bully of a doctor and the hospital to consider her life more important than an unborn babe's. I am thankful that they refused to give up on him, that they loved him and knew his life was precious. They are an amazing testament of strength and faith.

Today I am thankful for a laid-back, sling-loving little boy; it makes errand running ever so much easier!

#12. 1-12 Today, I am thankful for FIVE HOURS OF SLEEP IN A ROW!!!!  I don't know how it happened, but it did and I loved it! Now, could someone please explain to me why I'm still so tired? :)

#11. 1-11 Today I am thankful for the return of (and my return to) Wednesday night Bible Study. Oh, how I've missed it! There's just something about not having it that makes the week seem incredibly long and hard. I wasn't able to attend in November and early December at all due to Timothy being in the NICU and then him coming home (and needing to be kept away from germs), and then study was canceled due to people being gone for the holidays. But, now it's back and I am so happy!

Today I am thankful for a quiet night at home with Paul and Timothy. This is one of the last before school starts back up for the semester and I am keenly aware of how I'll miss them.

#9. 1-9 Today, I am thankful for understanding parents and students. I had my first lesson of the year today and Paul wasn't able to be home, so it was just me and Timothy and my student and her mother. Timothy did really well for the first 30 minutes, but was practically inconsolable for the last 15. They were so understanding about it all and didn't seem upset in the least! I still feel bad about it, but at least we now know what we're facing.

 #8. 1-8 Today, I am thankful for good friends. We had a great time with Brooke and family last night. What wonderful people!

Today, I am thankful for...


It is especially hard for me to come up with something for today's thanks. Timothy is going through a growth spurt and is nursing constantly and so I am getting very little quality sleep. To top it off, he has also added a 3-4 hour stretch of time where he is just wide awake and mildly fussy, which I could handle a lot easier if it were during daylight hours, but instead it tends to happen somewhere around 8pm and go on from there. Last night, he was awake from 8:45-12:45. Woke up at 2:45 to eat. Woke up at 3:45 to eat. Woke up at 4:45 to eat. Woke up at 5:45 to eat. Actually slept til 7:45, but then woke up at 7:45, 8:45, 9:45, 10:45 and 11:45 etc, etc, etc,  all to eat. And we aren't talking nibbling here. No, he's eating for 15 minutes solid. Suffice it to say that I am exhausted, and, apparently, have thrown myself a Pity Party.

*sniff*
*snuffle*
*tear*
*sob*

But, it is about to be over. Like a heavyweight boxer, I'm about to take out my opponent and go and spend the rest of my time in Joy and Happiness. Yes, I'm tired, but so are many mothers. Yes, I'm frustrated, but I've been frustrated before and lived through it. Yes, my cha-chas are sore, but it's not a life or death thing. This is not a unique situation and I will survive it.

The gloves are on, the brain is focused and I am tired of being sad. Let's do this.

In this corner, weighing 9000 lbs, with the well-known Uppercut of Exhaustion and the Right Hook of Despair, Seeeeeeeeelllllllllfffffff Piiiiiiiiiiity!! And in this corner, completely weightless, but backed by the Power of God, Bleeeeeeeeeeesssiiiiiiiiiiiiiiingssssssssss!!

*puts in teeth guard and smacks gloves together*

Today I am thankful to have my little boy home from the hospital. *whack!*
Today I am thankful that you would never know he was born 9 weeks early *smack!*
Today I am thankful that he is able to nurse free of nursing aids or bottles (despite what that so-called lactation consultant predicted) *pow!*
Today I am thankful that I am able to stay home with him and take care of him while he's cranky and not feeling so hot (growing is hard work!). *kablooey!*
Today I am thankful for my church *jab!*
Today I am thankful that God has blessed me with an amazing husband and a beautiful son. *KA-POW!*

Today I am thankful for a husband who took over baby-watching last night and allowed me to get 4, blissful, uninterrupted, wonderful hours of sleep all in a row (even though the baby was cranky and wouldn't take a bottle and threw up all over him)! Thank you, my love. I feel so much better!

Today I am thankful for a husband who will come home after a long, hard day at work and make dinner and clean up the kitchen and let me sleep, even though I haven't done anything all day long, just because I don't feel well.

January 1, 2012 - Today I am thankful that E&B got to come up and bring in the New Year with us. I have missed them so much and it has been simply wonderful to spend time with them again.
