The COUNTDOWN has BEGUN!!! As of the end of this week the countdown is as follows:
6 WEEKS LEFT OF SCHOOL!!!!
this translates to:
4.5 weeks left of classes
which in turn translates to:
23 Monday through Friday classes left (yay for German 300)
9 Tuesday and Thursday classes left
10 Monday and Wednesday classes left
PLUS
1.5 weeks of finals (I only have two finals, so that should be ok.)
and then, it's on to commencement (yes, I'm being forced to play in that AGAIN this semester. Yay for 2 hours of Pomp and Circumstance. But on the plus side I get the following: to eat a 'yummy' continental breakfast (that's juice and donuts, people), wear concert black all day (that's including heels and nylons), sit through TWO virtually identical ceremonies, have tortillas thrown at me (last year they almost got one in my horn), AND $50. wow, what a wonderful day THAT will be.)
then, two days after commencement, I fly to Philadelphia to see my sister, her husband and new baby. Yay! And then, it's a mere week before we take a two-day trip to Alabama to see another sister and her husband AND the third sister and her kids will join us there too. IT'S ALL SO EXCITING. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!!!! Ok, breathe.
and then, we drive back to Philadelphia and another week later (June 6th, to be precise. yes, that's 6/6/06. hmmm.....good thing I'm not superstitious) I FLY TO GERMANY!!!
Wow. I really have to stop thinking/typing about this now. If I get too excited, the anticipation will kill me. and it won't be any fun in Germany if I'm dead. sigh. back to the real world.
Here-in lies the very scary and often unnavigable world of me. Enter at your own peril.

We're on a mission from God
Ok, I have recently been told that I need to update this thing. I choose to believe that people are eager to read about my life because it's just so interesting, rather than that they're bored. You can believe what you want. Soooo, yeah. Update. yeah.
So, why haven't I updated, you ask? Homework? Maybe, although I don't usually let that get in the way of more pleasant activities. Usually what happens is that I have homework, and I KNOW I have homework, but I decide to do something else (because, after all, it won't take me very long, right?), like read a book, or watch tv, or stare at the wall. You know, something fun. Then, I realize that my homework is due tomorrow, and I haven't started it yet. No worries. I've still got time. I start and THEN it hits me. I am NOT as good as I think I am. It WILL take me more than a half hour to write a 500 word essay in German. I am an idiot. So, I stay up ALL night doing homework. I get maybe 5 hours of sleep, and am cranky the next day, but by golly, I get it done. See, I know this is the routine, but I conveniently forget this until the next time.
So, given the above evidence, it's clearly not homework that's preventing me from updating.
Maybe it's sleep? Is sleep THAT important? Yes, yes it is. Unless it cuts into reading time (I'm currently reading "Das Erste Gesetz der Magie" - which = Wizard's First Rule, and I won't mention that I've only read one chapter since last Friday. Hey! German is HARD) or Fraiser, or Phil of the Future. Clearly I'm willing to interrupt sleep for the important stuff. Apparently, that's not it.
No, I think it all boils down to the fact that my life just isn't THAT interesting. I know that's hard to believe, and I realize that some of you are now disillusioned with me, but there it is. My life is boring. BORING. I could spend all my time ranting and raving about having to write THREE papers in German this week plus a German midterm, but I don't think anybody really cares about all that. If you do, please let me know and I will be sure to oblige. And Susan: I have no comments. none at all. you win.
Now for some random quotes:
"You play ball like a GIRL!!!"
"Laugh it up, Fuzzball!"
"Weeping...weeping."
"You called down the thunder, well now you've got it! You see that? It says United States Marshall. Take a good look at him (points to dead guy), Mike, cuz that's how you're gonna end up. The Cowboys are finished, you understand me? I see a red sash, I kill the man wearin' it. So run, you cur. RUN! Tell all the other curs the law is comin'. You tell 'em I'M comin' and Hell's comin' with me, you hear?! HELL'S COMIN' with me!!!!!"

I almost died again today
So, I think that my time on earth is severely limited. Today is the 3rd time in 6 days that I have nearly died! Interestingly, each attempt on my life has involved a car. hmmm.
The first time, I was just minding my own business, driving up the ramp in the parking garage, when this massive truck (a Ford...trust me, I got a REALLY good look at that front bumper) comes careening around the corner, going 7 billion miles per hour and nearly hits me. I slam on my brakes, but he doesn't even slow down...just keeps zooming along as I'm sitting, huddled in the driver's seat, braced for impact. Strike One.
Then, on Friday, I leeave work at 5 and I am walking along the sidewalk to go to the parking garage. I am walking with the flow of traffic and have just entered a little side-street intersection when I hear a honk behind me. I pay no attention, because, after all, it is rush hour. One expects to hear horns. But then it occurs to me that maybe I should....ZOOM! this car (an SUV, of course) comes squealing around the corner maybe a foot in front of me (now, mind you, I was IN THE INTERSECTION and this is a PEDESTRIAN FRIENDLY CITY) with the driver yelling 'Pay Attention!!!' Jerk. Strike Two.
And so, today, I was driving to work. It's a little after 7:30 and I am in the turn lane to turn left. The light turns yellow, so I inch my way forward and wait for oncoming traffic to stop. Then, the light turns red and my little green arrow pops up, so, naturally, I assume that it is my turn to go. The oncoming white truck seems to be slowing to a stop. So, I hit the gas. The white truck doesn't slow down, but rather swerves. I slam on the brakes. He continues, THROUGH A RED LIGHT and, finally, heart racing, I get to continue on my way. Strike Three.
Does anybody else see a pattern here?

Es ist so langweilig
Ok, I realize that not everybody is as big a nerd as I am, BUT, just in case, I've included a link to LEO, which is an online German-English Dictionary. Trust me, it's really super cool. Really.
And now, since my life is so boring (hence the title of this post....), I am going to give you a list of random things I have learned today.
1. Big trucks are really scary when they come careening around the corner of the parking garage and head right toward you. This is especially true if you are in a tiny car and they don't slow down one iota.
2. Parents are mean. There needs to be some kind of test for parents before they are allowed to name their children. PARENTS: If your last name is "Lane", for heaven's sake, DO NOT name your daughter "Shaydee". As a matter of fact, don't name your daughter "Shaydee" at all. That's just stupid.
3. In Arizona, the time between the rain starting and the ambulance sirens is 6.2 seconds. I think rain scares Arizonans.
4. Ryan Seacrest is REALLY annoying. Oops. Did I just admit that I watch American Idol? Ah well.
5. The Arizona Legislature is bicameral.
6. Bicameral means "two chambered".
And, uh, yeah. In looking back on it, I think maybe I should have learned more than that today.
Oh, yeah. Also, don't name your daughters "Princess" or "Porshe". They are not poodles.

Girl Scout Cookies
It is a good thing that Sunday night TV stinks. It's also a good thing that the kitchen is so far away from the living room. I say this because if these two things were not true, I would not have gotten any homework done tonight, AND I would have eaten an entire box of Girl Scout Cookies. mmmmmm Girl Scout Cookies. Is there anything better? (in the cookie department, I mean. Obviously there are better things in other departments....). My favorites are Thin Mints and Samoas. I know, I know... it's not original, but seriously, those are the best! I love Girl Scout Cookie time. They show up on the Mall at school and you can buy a box right there. It's amazing. You can take them to class and eat them - the cookies, not the Girl Scouts - you can't beat that!
Wow! It's 9:40 and my homework is done! I can go to bed early. WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!
Wow! It's 9:40 and my homework is done! I can go to bed early. WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!
You hear, but it's hard to know for sure.
So, before I started this, I heard that blogging is addicting. I heard. But I didn't believe. I'll be strong, I thought. I don't have time for this to become an addiction, I said. I was wrong. I have spent the last 3 hours messing with this thing. I changed the background. And then changed it again....and again....and again. Finally found one I liked, so I started messing with settings. And, the whole time I'm doing all this, the word "Homework" is running through my head like a mantra. I managed to tune it out though, since I've had 17 years worth of practice in ignoring THAT particular word (yes, 17. Don't believe me? Count 'em. I started kindergarten at 5 and now I'm 22. Yup, 17).
In my defense, I did get a lot of homework done today (I just didn't get it ALL done). Actually, today was a pretty unglamorous day. I spent the morning - SATURDAY morning - scooping dog doodles out of the back yard. Then I worked on the kitchen. Thrilling, I know. Then I spent a couple hours at the library doing homework and then I came home and washed dishes (did I mention that today is SATURDAY??). Fun. Now, I'm working on my Blog and watching German News. I know, I know. I'm a huge nerd. But, it's really cool! I have a tv station that broadcasts News from Germany, in German!!!!!!!!! It's awesome. Really.
sigh. I'm tired. Time for Physical Therapy Exercises for my knee and then bed. Goodnight, everybody!

Das Hündchen
This is my doggie, Diesel. Of course, what you may not know is that this is Diesel, 1 year ago (at 1 month old). Today, she is 65 pounds of uncoordination - always running into walls and tripping over her feet. She is part Black Lab, part Shar-pei (incidentally, Sharpey is the name of a girl on a new movie on the Disney Channel. I thought that was kind of weird. The movie was bad, too. Don't see "High School Musical". Anyway, back to the dog...), part Pit. Interesting mix, no? She's got the Lab personality (you know, bubbly, I'm going to lick everything to death), coupled with the Pit "Don't mess with me, I'll bite your leg" temper. It's an interesting combination. Anyway, I just thought you guys would like to meet Diesel. She says hi.
And so the fun begins
Well, hello. So, I decided to start a Blog for my trip to Germany. Yes, I realize that trip isn't until June, but I thought to myself "Self, you've never done a Blog before. You should start it now so that you know what you are doing." and I thought "Wow, that's a great idea". So, here we are. I guess what is really going on is that I don't want to work on homework, so I'm finding random ways to get out of it. Don't get me wrong, I really do plan to keep this up for my Germany trip, but did I really have to start it now? I'm not so sure. So yeah, on to homework and let the Blogging fun begin!!
